FireWire Design Guide 2010 - This document provides guidelines for implementing FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports on both high level complex devices such as personal computers and simple devices such as inexpensive consumer electronics products. The guide includes references to normative specifications as well as full reference designs that can be used as is or, with the careful consideration of the trade-offs, as a starting point for a more optimized design.

Of Windmills and Recording Studios - Windmills are pleasing to the eye, but the size, violence, and expense of these mega-machines make them even more impressive.  They are standalone power plants, 40 to 80 meters above the ground, costing more than a $1 million USD each with 20+ year life spans, meaning they require maintenance.  This article describes the need for a machine monitoring system in wind turbines, how the requirements for a music studio network are similar to a wind turbine’s machine monitoring system, and how a FireWireTM music studio networking system has been used to create a condition based maintenance system for wind turbines.

1394 Bus Driver in Windows 7 - This paper provides information about IEEE 1394 support in Windows 7 so that 1394 developers can understand the new 1394 bus driver in Windows 7.
