The 1394 Trade Association (1394TA) has built a set of IEEE-1394B-2002 Beta and Bilingual 9-pin interconnect system (cable and connectors) test and calibration fixtures. The following boards are in the set:
- 1394B Test Board Bilingual Socket
- 1394B Test Board Beta Socket
- 1394B Calibration Board Beta/Bilingual Socket
- 1394B Calibration Board

1394B Calibration Board Beta/Bilingual Socket
The 1394B Calibration Board shown in Figure 1 is used to calibrate out the effects of both test fixtures, one at each end of the cable. The 1394B Calibration Board is the same for both the Beta and Bilingual test fixtures. The Bilingual test fixture is shown in Figure 2. The layout, PCB stack up, pads and traces are identical for the 1394B Calibration Boards and those implemented on the test fixtures themselves. All are designed to have 110 ohm impedance matched traces. |

Socket Test Fixture
Two of the 1394B Test Board Beta (for Bilingual one 1394B Test Board and one 4 or 6 circuit test fixture is required) Socket test fixtures are connected with the Cable Under Test (CUT). Both test fixtures are connected to the appropriate test equipment via the SMA connectors for testing. |
1394B Calibration Board
The 1394B Calibration Board is used to calibrate the test equipment used to conduct the cable and connector testing. It is constructed with the same 110 Ohm PCB stack up as the test fixtures with the following calibration configurations:
- Zero Length Thru
- Delay
- Reflect Short
- Reflect Open
- Load
